Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said that the government would implement the judgement of the Supreme Court on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in accordance with the Constitution. He said that he was consulting the Law Minister, the Attorney General, and other legal experts for recommendations on the issue. However, finalisation of the matter would take time, he added.

He said, "We respect the decision of judiciary and believe in the supremacy of the law and sanctity of the Constitution and are taking every step in accordance with the constitution". Talking to reporters after a surprise visit to some of the Utility Stores outlets here, the Prime Minister directed the concerned officials to set up 6,000 new Utility Stores outlets across the country to provide maximum relief to the masses, besides creating jobs opportunities for at least 12,000 people.

Regarding reopening of Swiss cases, he said that the decision would be taken after studying the detailed judgment of the apex court. Gilani said that the dream of good governance could not be realised until all state pillars played their due in this regard.

He stressed the need for across the board cooperation among the federal, provincial and district governments for good governance in the country. Giving reference of his statement at the floor of National Assembly, Gilani said that the PPP-led federal coalition government believes in the supremacy of law and stability of state institutions, which ultimately give strength to democracy.

He reiterated that the government was fully respecting the verdicts of the courts, and added that on the issue of judges' seniority and their appointments he did not want to comment "as the matter is between me and the President". The prime minister said he wanted to assess quality and rates of different commodities being sold at USC outlets. He said the government would devise a strategy in consultation with four chief ministers to overcome sugar shortage and keep its price stable.
